EDI has been leading the GEM India consortium for last three years and would continue to play a pivotal role in this capacity for 2015-18 as well.
For the next few years the research study would be structured around a three-tier model. This strategy and operating plan encompasses:
Assessing Entrepreneurial Activity in the country | Widening the GEM Network and Enhancing its Outreach | Thematic and Regional Reports |

This study aims to analyse ‘Entrepreneurial Opportunity’, ‘Entrepreneurial Activity’, ‘Entrepreneurial Motivation’ and ‘Attitude towards Entrepreneurship’ in India through ‘Adult Population Survey’. Through ‘National Expert Survey’ the study will also analyse ‘Entrepreneurial Framework Conditions’ such as entrepreneurial finance, government policies and programmes for entrepreneurship, market openness, R&D and several other factors that enable the entrepreneurship ecosystem. | The GEM India Consortium would invite leading Institutions in entrepreneurship research, education and training to undertake the GEM India study on a large scale (region/state wise). Data collected during surveys under this study would be categorically used to compare the entrepreneurial climate and activity among the states and regions of India. | The ‘GEM India Consortium’ would encourage State Level Institutions to identify two categories of intra-state indicators – factors that boost entrepreneurship and factors that constraint its growth. Consequently, the consortium and state level partner institutions would jointly come-up with thematic (Women Entrepreneurship, Youth Entrepreneurship, Technopreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship) and state specific reports. |
The GEM India team will disseminate its research findings in form of GEM India Annual Report and working papers as well as through seminars and workshops. | The analysed data would help researchers, academicians and policymakers to create policies and programmes that promote entrepreneurship development in India. | These reports and findings would be useful for researchers, academicians, policymakers and government in formulating strategic interventions for entrepreneurship development in India. |
